A strong personal project should help you practice deeply while staying close enough to reality to become useful proof when applying for jobs.

I usually start with a problem familiar enough that I do not waste time learning the domain, but broad enough to practice architecture and delivery thinking.

The areas worth investing in most are user flows, data design, and deployment, because those are the signals that push a project beyond a basic demo.

If a project runs end-to-end, includes CI/CD, and has concise documentation, its persuasive value becomes much higher.
